Dr. Nick Uram, Psy.D. is a Psychologist who specializes in evidence-based psychotherapy, using mindfulness, acceptance, and compassion-focused methods to treat a range of problems. Dr. Uram has extensive experience treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma and PTSD, stress-related problems, and serious mental illness. Dr. Uram’s vision for effective psychotherapy involves cultivating and honing our strengths to promote wellbeing and a life of meaning and purpose, even in the presence of significant struggle.
Dr. Uram is also passionate about training future therapists and values a collaborative approach to supervision that is rooted in mutual respect, growth, quality of care, and fun. Dr. Uram has trained mental health professionals in the provision of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), serving as a national consultant for ACT training and education within the VA system.
Dr. Uram is a counseling psychologist by training, having received his Psy.D. from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. His research interests during graduate school were geared toward exploring the therapeutic relationship dynamics between military-affiliated clientele and civilian mental health practitioners. Dr. Uram completed his pre-doctoral internship at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL (2015-2016) where he specialized in trauma, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and substance use disorders. Dr. Uram completed a special populations postdoctoral fellowship with an emphasis in SMI and Geropsychology at the Washington DC VA Medical Center (2016-2017). He then transitioned into the role of Local Recovery Coordinator for the Washington DC VA where he helped advocate for and implement recovery-oriented systems of care in the greater VA system. Dr. Uram has since affiliated with the Center for Compassion Focused Therapy, NY; Vitality Psychological Services; The Pittsburgh VA Medical Center; Chatham University; Looking Glass Psychology.
